LEROY KEITH BUCKLES, JR.

L.K. Buckles Jr., 78, of Mount Pulaski died at 10 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Mount Pulaski Christian Church.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church, with John Robertson and Bill Shanle officiating.

Burial, with military rites, will be in Steenbergen Cemetery, Mount Pulaski.

Mr. Buckles was a retired farmer. He was township supervisor for 36 years and a member of the Logan County Board for 17 years.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was born March 26, 1924, in Mount Pulaski to Leroy Keith and Helen Copeland Buckles Sr. He married Dolly L. Campbell in Washington, D.C., on Dec. 22, 1945. She survives.

Other survivors are one son, Leroy Keith (and Terri) Buckles III of Jacksonville, Ark.; one daughter, Lisa Jill (and Stephen) Rinkel of Mahomet; five grandchildren; one brother, Henry F. (and Irma Jean) Buckles of Mount Pulaski; and one brother-in-law, Elmer Durchholz of Mount Pulaski.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Marilyn Durchholz.

He served on the commission that built the Logan County Safety Complex and on the boards of the Abraham Lincoln Healthcare Foundation and Logan County Housing Authority.

He served two terms as commander of American Legion Post 447, where he was sergeant-at-arms for the past 30 years. He was also a member of the Logan County Council of the American Legion.

He was a trustee for the Mount Pulaski Historical Society and a member of Mount Pulaski Christian Church, where he served as a deacon for many years.

Memorials may be made to the church or to American Legion Post 447.
