Sarah Curtis Died Thursday

The death of Sarah Angeline Curtis, widow of H. W. Curtis, came rather unexpectedly at 5:00 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the home of her son, Geo. W. Curtis, in Mt. Pulaski.

Mrs. Curtis had been in failing health for some time and had been staying the past few days with her son. She suffered a heart attack Tuesday morning and, at her advanced age, her condition was considered serious.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 from her home at the corner of Vine and Cook, with Rev. Gilbert Zink, pastor of the Williamsville Christian church, officiating.

Burial will be at Steenbergen cemetery southwest of the city.

Sarah Angeline Scroggin was a daughter of Russell S. and Elizabeth Lucas Scroggin, who were early settlers in Logan county. She was born on a farm near Mt. Pulaski, September 30, 1854, and died Tuesday, Sept. 19, 1933, at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 19 days. She was united in marriage to H. W. Curtis on January 14, 1875, at the home of her parents. They resided on a farm until about fifteen years ago when they moved to Mt. Pulaski.

They were the parents of nine children, eight of whom survive: Amos of Montana; Mrs. Nettie Riley, Decatur; Mrs. Ellen Piatt, Hartsburg; Carter Curtis, Buffalo Hart; Mrs. Frances Bowers, George, Edward, and John Curtis, all of Mt. Pulaski. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and one brother, Marion Scroggin, Rock Island.
