DANIEL ISGRIG FRENCH

Daniel Isgrig French was born Jan 2, 1831 in Miami County, Ohio and died Feb 17, 1896 near French's Chapel. In 1836, with his parents Asa and Hannah Clark French, he moved to Logan County Illinois. He was married three times, first to Hannah Downing, in 1855 who died May 4, 1856, leaving one son, John Winans French of Kansas. He then married Mary Augusta Alexander who died Feb 21 1865. Of this union one daughter is living, Nancy Caroline French (Mrs William Landau). He married Susan A. Bunfield, Sept. 26, 1866, who survives him with 8 of her 9 children. He was converted in 1858 and united with the Church. He helped to erect and sustain by his presence, prayers and means, French's Chapel in Chester Twp. near Salt Creek, Logan Co. Illinois. He filled every official position in the church and was an earnest Christian. His last words were parts of a song that he often sang in good health; "How happy are they whom their Savior obey." Burial was in Downing Cemetery-------J. H. Hartrick, Mt. Pulaski, Ills."

In 1896, $107. 25 was paid for his casket. Medical bill for last illness was $44. and bill from Dr. W.W. Houser $16. In his estate he had title to 214.4 Acres in Logan Co. valued at $15,200.
