RUSSELL SCROGGIN, 91, DEAD

Mt. Pulaski Man, Pioneer in County, Passes Monday Morning

Russell Shelby Scroggin, one of the pioneers of Logan county, for many years a farmer of this county, and brother of L. K. Scroggin, the Mt. Pulaski banker, died at his home in Mt. Pulaski Monday morning at 11:40 o'clock aged 91 years, 9 months and 25 days.

He was born in Equality, Gallatin County, Illinois, January 14, 1823, the son of Carter and Phoebe Shelby Scroggin. He was twice married, the first time to Miss Elizabeth Lucas, near Mt. Pulaski, March 28, 1845. She died during the "nineties". He was united in marriage March 25, 1900 to Elizabeth Stipp.

The following children survive: Sarah Angeline Curtis of Mt. Pulaski and Humphrey Marion Scroggin of Kearney, Neb. Amanda Ellen Curtis, Charles Shelby Scroggin and Russell Franklin Scroggin, other children of the deceased, preceded him in death. Two brothers and one sister also survive: Leonard K. Scroggin of Mt. Pulaski; C. T. Scroggin and Ellen Lucas of Mt. Pulaski.

Deceased was a lifelong member of the Primitive Baptist Church. He was active in his community and held the respect of all his acquaintances.
