REBECCA J. SHORT

Mrs. Rebecca J. Short passed away at her home in Emden on Sunday at 11:45 p.m. aged 85 years, 7 months and 22 days. Rebecca Vinson, youngest child of Jesse and Jane Vinson, was born in Aurora , Dearborn county, Indiana on May 20th , 1851. She was married to Patterson Short Sept. 27, 1868 and he passed away Oct. 1st, 1919.

She is survived by three sons and two daughter, Mrs. Ida Edes and Lum Short of St. Charles, Mo,; Elmer Short and Mrs.. Flora Carnahan of Emden and Roy Short, Waterloo, Ia., a daughter, Myrtle, have preceded her parents in death several years.

There are 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. A grand daughter, Hezel Edes Bangert made her home with her grandmother and attended Emden school from the time she was old enough to attend school until she finished the grades. She was also Principal of the grade school for several years, and made her home with her grandmother.

Mrs. Short profess her faith in Christ during the first revival held after the church was built in Oct. 1888 and W.H. Bowles was the Evangelist. She was a charter member of the Church and also of the Ladies Aid Society when it was organized. She held the office of Pres. for years until her failing eye-sight caused her to give up the work.

Funeral services were held at the Emden Christian church on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. with Carroll Langston officiating. Burial was made in the Bethel Cemetery.
