Ernest F. Hoffert, 68, of 709 Decatur st., died at 4:45 a.m. Thursday at Deaconess hospital where he had been a patient for 10 days. He had been night watchman at the garment factory for the past 21 years.
Mr. Hoffert was born April 23, 1878 in Germany a son of Fred and Minnie Hoffert, and with his parents came to this country when four years old. He came to Lincoln 25 years ago. His marriage to Lena Borchardt took place Dec. 14, 1904 in Lincoln, and she survives with the following children: George, Cantral; Mrs. Harry Bennett, Jan Jose; Ernest jr., Taylorville; Raymond, Robert and Arthur of Lincoln. There are 14 grandchildren.
A brother Richard of Creve Couer and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Ruwe and Mrs. Hannah Heinzel of Lincoln, also survive.
The body was taken to Sheets Funeral home where a brief service will be held at 1:45 p.m. (CDT) Saturday and at 2 o’clock there will be rites at St. John’s Evangelical church with the Rev. H. J. Barth, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
The body will remain at the funeral home and the members of the family will meet friends there between the hours of 2 and 4 and 7 and 9 p.m. Friday.
Mrs. A. J. Englebrecht and Mrs. John Gockel, accompanied by Mrs. Paul Hauffe, sang “The Old Rugged Cross’ and ‘Abide With Me.’ Pall bearers were Harold, Elmer and Alfred Ruwe, Fred, Carl and William Heinzel
