Mrs. W. E. Jones, Who Saw Abe Lincoln, Dies

Mrs. Amanda C. Jones, 89, of 104 Sixth street, widow of William E. Jones, died at 8 o'clock Sunday morning at St. Clara's hospital. She had been in failing health for some time, but had been seriously ill only a week.

She was born in Pike county, January 30, 1859, the daughter of P.P. and Amanda Rush Lucas, but spent most of her life in Logan county.

Mrs. Jones was one of the few remaining residents of this vicinity who had seen and heard Abraham Lincoln. She recalls having seen Mr. Lincoln in a parade when he was campaigning for president of the United States.

The following sons and daughters survive: N. W. Jones and Clarence O. Jones, Wellington, Canada; Mrs. Frank Warren, New Holland; James W. Jones, San Francisco, Calif., and Paul C. Jones, Niagara Falls, N.Y. Mrs. Jones was a member of the First Methodist church of Lincoln.

The body will remain at the Goff Funeral Home until definite funeral arrangements are made.
