OBITUARIES

Transcribed by Carolyn Caplinger

The following three were published in the Lincoln Courier on February 28, 1917. I have noted an exact death date if I can figure it out.

HORACE THOMAS McDAVID

(d. before February 28, 1917)

Horace Thomas McDavid, infant son of Attorney and Mrs. Horace W. McDavid, died at 10 o'clock Monday night at the family residence in Decatur. He was 11 months old. His death was due to acute bronchial pneumonia. The baby was taken ill with a severe cold Saturday, but his condition did not appear to be serious until late Sunday afternoon when pneumonia developed.

The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the family residence conducted by Rev. J. W. McDonald, pastor of the Second Presbyterian Church.

Mr. McDavid is representative in the legislature from this district.

P. H. SWILLE

(d. before February 28, 1917)

The death of P. H. Swille, one of Hartsburg's oldest residents, occurred at the home Tuesday morning. Death was due to heart trouble with which the deceased had been afflicted for some time. Mr. Swille was about 70 years of age. The funeral will occur tomorrow afternoon [March 1] at the Hartsburg Christian Church with Rev. Carl Buch or Hartsburg and Rev. T. T. Holton of Bloomington officiating.

The deceased is survived by his widow and a number of children. Two children, William and Lyman Swille, reside at home.

EMMA KEALEY

(d. February 25, 1917)

The remains of the late Miss Emma Kealey arrived this morning from St. Mary's O., accompanied by the brother, J. C. Kealey and wife and at 1 o'clock this afternoon were buried in Union Cemetery. The service at the grave was in charge of Rev. M. R. Laird.

Miss Kealey resided for about forty years on North State Street with her sister, Mrs. Jesse Denman. Upon the death of the sister several years ago, she went to St. Mary's O to reside with her brother J. C. Kealey. Death occurred on February 25 at 8 p.m. the deceased being aged 79 years, 9 months and 14 days. Jesse Denman at whose home Miss Kealey resided while here, is now living in Chicago.

The following obituaries appeared in the Lincoln Courier. I'm not sure of the exact date but I estimate that the date was November 29 - December 3, 1930. Someone from the Logan County Genealogical & Historical Society sent it to me but forgot to note the date of the paper. My husband's grandfather's infant sister was included on this page and she died November 28, 1930. Her obit didn't give me enough information for me to figure out what day this paper was published. All it said was that she was being buried that day.

MRS. MARY ARMINDA DOYLE

Funeral services for the late Mr. Mary Doyle were conducted at the Goff Funeral Home at 10:30 o'clock this morning. Rev. L. H. Hooe conducted the service and burial was in Two Mile Grove Cemetery near Latham.

GEORGE HASENMYER

Funeral services for the late George Hasenmyer will take place at 2 o'clock this afternoon from Harmony Church with Rev. O. L. Clapper in charge. Burial will be made in Union Cemetery.

MRS. MARY OPAL BOGARDUS

Mrs. Mary Opal Bogardus, Springfield, wife of Edward Bogardus, merchant policeman, formerly of Lincoln, died at 10:30 o'clock last night at the residence.

Decedent is survived by husband, Edward G; two daughters, Mrs. H. F. Stewart and Mrs. L. D. Pottorff, Los Angeles, Cal; one son, Henry Bogardus; three sisters, Mrs. Albert Spaulding, Pekin; Mrs. Ada Smith and Mrs. William Martin, Havana; one brother David Horner, Havana and three grandchildren.
