Decatur Daily Review, August 5, 1928

Mt. Pulaski, Aug. 5 - Funeral services for Mrs. Ellen Lucas, aged eighty-six years, were held here Wednesday afternoon from the family residence on West Jefferson Street, conducted by Rev. W. O. Chastain of Springfield.

Mrs. Lucas was one of the early pioneers of this locality, being a sister of the late L. K. Scroggin and the last remaining member of that family. She is survived by one son, George Lucas of this city. During the early settlement of Logan County, the Scroggin and Lucas families cut quite a figure in the affairs of the county and state and have ever occupied a prominent place in this locality. The interment was in Steenbergen cemetery, four miles southwest of Mt. Pulaski.
