SAMUEL J. SMITH DIES AT HOSPITAL


Samuel J. Smith, 77, 1006 Sixth st., for 50 years employed at Union cemetery and the last living member of the church board of the old Lincoln Hill Cumberland Presbyterian church, died at 12:15 a.m. Tuesday at Deaconess hospital where he had been a patient two days. He had been ill four years.

Mr. Smith was born Nov. 28, 1867 in Logan county, a son of John and Allie Keesner Smith, the former a native of Switzerland and the latter a native of Kentucky. His marriage to Anna Ritchhart took place Jan. 30, 1908 in Lincoln who with a son, Herbert B. Smith, 1108 Sixth st., survives. Three brothers and a sister also survive: Charles, Louis and Frank Smith and Mrs. Allie M. Sheley, all of Lincoln. There are two grandchildren: Bill and Patsy Smith of Lincoln and a number of nieces and nephews.

The body was taken to Wright funeral home and Wednesday afternoon will be taken to the Herbert Smith home on Sixth st. to remain until Thursday morning when it will be taken back to the funeral home.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Wright Funeral home with the Rev. Earl C. Hargrove, pastor of First Christian church, officiating. Burial will be in Union cemetery.
