In theory, in Illinois and other parts
of the Northwest Territory, a Township is a piece of land approximately six miles square [36
square miles] which is divided into 36 Sections
which are approximately one square mile or 640 acres each. The legal description
of land in Logan County should be minimally including range [west of the 3rd principle meridian for ALL land in Logan County], the township and the section number. Descriptions of city property will include more information.
